A research program is being carried out on the ecology of the chimpanzee in the Boé and its habitat that helps to improve conservation of the Boé. In 2012 collaboration has started with the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (MPI). Through the use of remote video cameras and the collection of vegetation data and organic samples at the research site in Boé, to collect systematic ecological, social and behavioural data of chimpanzees. Images and videos from the remote cameras will be used to obtain information on social parameters such as group size, grouping patterns, demographic rates and structure, inter and intra specific contact rates and distance, community overlap zones, and chimpanzee behaviour, in particular tool use.
